Beth Kirkpatrick's Ultra Shuffle

with Beth Kirkpatrick,
NASPE Teacher of the Year

Now on video for the first time! Listen and watch as Beth Kirkpatrick shares the design and philosophy that she has developed over a storied career in physical education. Witness the "Ultra Shuffle" first-hand as Kirkpatrick uses this unique system with a class of 56 fourth grade students. The "Ultra Shuffle" is an effective organizational system for upper elementary, middle school, and high school classes designed to provide a non-threatening environment for all sports and games that places an emphasis on individual challenges, interaction, cooperative accomplishments, stress releases, critical thinking, problem-solving, and on the applications of positive living skills. Students are shuffled through this noncompetitive system which rotates participants throughout several game situations, a skill station, referee positions, and provides all participants with the exact same play time and skill time. This game system is inclusive, serving as a management tool for small or large classes in both indoor and outdoor settings and offers a real solution for today's huge class sizes in physical education. Beth Kirkpatrick makes teaching this play system a fun experience for both the instructor and the students. Sit back and watch how Beth solves one of our greatest mysteries in physical education: "How do we level the playing field for all students every day in every activity?"

35 minutes. 2004.
